FCCLA

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, or FFCLA, is a student run organization that promotes building leaders while focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner and community leader. Members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
FCCLA works on developing leadership through individually set goals and challenges, cooperation in team events and projects, and performance in various competitions. Park High FCCLA focuses on the three following areas
 

Competitive Events

Students may compete at the state and national levels.
 
STAR EVENTS
Members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation.
 
There are over 30 events to choose from.  Examples include:

  • Life Event Planning
  • Focus on Children
  • Job Interview
  • Parliamentary Procedure
  • Fashion Design
  • Food Innovations
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Digital Stories for Change

SKILL DEMONSTRATION EVENTS
Members demonstrate college and career-ready skills in FCS and related occupations.
Events include:
  • Toys that Teach
  • Fashion Sketch
  • Consumer Math Challenge
  • FCCLA Knowledge Bowl
  • Science in FCS Challenge

Leadership

Leadership skills are developed through:
  • Chapter meetings
  • District meetings and workshops
  • Chapter and individual projects
  • Attending the Leadership Rally
  • State Leadership Conference
  • National Leadership Conference

Community Service

Members participate in a variety of community service projects.
 
For the 2015-2016 school year:

The national and state outreach project is Lead2Feed.  For Lead2Feed, our chapter is working on:
  • Food drives
  • Teaching elementary-middle school cooking/nutrition class
  • Packing food backpacks for elementary students to take home on weekends
Our PHS community service projects are:
  • Collecting used formal dresses and creating a store where students can shop for their prom and winter formal dresses
  • Making weighted lap blankets for local students with sensory disorders
